  • Dowry System

The dowry system was a system transformed by the British during medieval times to reduce the financial power of women in the houses they get married into.

During that time the British made it into a strict rule to be followed, so with no say in the matter the people had to follow it. But as everything went on this rule became a tradition in India, and due to this system many women have suffered throughout these decades. Even though there is a law against it, till now dowry is still in practice.

This system has a lot of problems. It makes people feel like one is inferior to the other, creates problems after marriage and it is mainly women who can’t deal with this pressure and choose the wrong path.

The dowry system was different in ancient times; it was about giving financial independence to women after they were married off. But the British transformed it into a system where men get more power than women inside the household and from that period of time women have struggled in different ways.

The dowry rate was last checked in the year 2023 and it showed that 15,000 cases were reported across the country and 6,100 deaths throughout the year. These are just the cases which were reported, think about the ones which were not reported. How many women would have suffered in silence will always be a question.

In the end I would like to say that the dowry system works differently everywhere and there are cases in which it has been more gruesome. If more women turned out to be like Nisha Sharma then more women can be saved from going through struggles that no human being should go through in their life.

  • How Does Littering Affect The Environment

Littering the environment has become a common thing in India. People do not care about how much a piece of plastic can affect the environment. Plastic takes around 100 years to even start breaking down and during this process they are littered in water and on roads.

Each new generation has to hold the responsibility of making sure that they use resources in a way in which the future and present generations shouldn’t be affected.

The ones who are affected more in this case are the ragpickers as they handpick contaminated things and materials which were affected due to littering and factory waste.

People who live in slums get affected as they live near landfills and it also affects marine life. Ragpickers who need to make a living for their family have no other choice rather than doing the job their generation has been doing for years. Even knowing about the harmful effects they continue doing it and due to this they get infections, diseases, and skin conditions. 1.5 million people have to face this in India and that is the reality these people have to face. Over 279 rivers are affected in India due to littering.

Every day due to this marine animals get affected and as this continues the food chain will break and the cycle will affect every single living being who depends on marine life for living. The impact of this will affect various living beings including us.

Only when something big happens due to littering do people decide to take action and take accountability. In conclusion, all I would like to say is every litter causes someone’s life to be at stake, so all we should do is think wisely before we do something.

  • Why We Still Need Feminism

Feminism is such a fancy word that people rush to the point where they think it means equal rights for women only. The society we live in always rushes to follow the crowd rather than sit down and think. Even though it’s sad that we still need feminism, it’s the sad reality that all of us need to face. Feminism is all about getting equal rights for men and women in every field that they aspire to be in.

There should be no discrimination based on gender, religion, and caste. As the years pass by, new roles are emerging and as new roles emerge everyone should have the right to explore their options and when it comes to choosing, they should be chosen based on their skills and not anything else.

Women and men both face a lot of peer pressure, financial problems, and society norms which mold them into different people than they aspired to be one day. All these are things which can be easily changed. It all starts from a young age when a teacher guides them and slowly as they grow they study subjects which interest them.

This will help them avoid peer pressure and they will slowly find solutions to their financial problems. We follow a lot of things in our way without questioning whether it’s right or wrong, just like the norms set in our society. We blindly follow things because “It has always been that way”. As we question things one by one, we break each stereotype and we are able to achieve greater heights.

In conclusion, all I would like to say is that these are just basic things which lead to the need for feminism. There are more if we keep digging into this category. So as we conclude this, all I would like for you to do is sit down and look around yourself, look at every single person and ask their story.

When you ask one by one, you will get to know that each story will have an unfair incident and you will also see how each of them is normalised and shut down by someone.

In the end of that story, you will know why we still fight for the need for feminism.
